Impression

A term used in Banner advertising. When
someone visits a page that has a banner on it, it is called an
impression.

Inline
-
Inline refers to when media or file
format is supported directly within a browser, eliminating the
need for a helper application.

|
Intranet
-
A minature version of the Internet usually
on the scale of a company network. An Intranet provides everyone
on the company network access to the companies data through a browser.
The data is presented in web page format connected by links just
like the Internet. The difference being, the web pages are not
accessible to the general public, only to company employees.

Internet
Protocol Address

IP Address or IP number. The address
of a computer on a TCP/IP network. IP addresses are written as
four groups of up to three digits, each represented by periods
(full stops for those of you across the big pond) Each computer
on the net has its own IP address.

InterNIC

The internet Domain registration database,
the main governing body on the internet. Domain names are registered
through them. (for Now)

IRC (Internet
Relay Chat)

IRC is a multi-user chat system that
makes it possible for people to "talk" to each other
in pre-determined virtual "channels" on the Internet.
The chat is in real-time and usually centers around a certain topic
of conversation.

ISMAP or
Image Map

A graphic that has several hot spots
within it which allows the user to click it to access other pages
or sites.
